Conversation Starters
Add optional starter questions to help website visitors begin a ChatNexus conversation.
What conversation starters do
Conversation starters are optional question pills shown above the website chat message box. They give visitors a quick way to begin without deciding what to type. When a visitor selects one, its text is sent as their first chat message.
Starters are configured separately for each chatbot and are disabled by default. You can save up to five questions, each up to 160 characters.
Configure the questions
- Open the chatbot in the dashboard and go to Settings.
- Select Conversation starters under Chat experience.
- Turn on Show starter questions.
- Add up to five questions and save.
- Preview the chatbot to confirm the questions appear as expected.
Questions should represent common requests the chatbot can answer, for example:
- “How can I track my order?”
- “What are your opening hours?”
- “Can you help me choose the right plan?”
Where visitors see them
The pills appear in website chat before the visitor sends their first message. They disappear once the conversation starts and are hidden while the visitor is using voice mode. If the feature is enabled with no saved questions, no pills are shown.
This setting applies to the website chat widget. It does not currently send starter pills or quick-reply buttons through WhatsApp or SMS. WhatsApp supports its own interactive reply buttons through provider APIs, but that is a separate channel feature with different limits and setup.
